cancer in the mouth common? |

Ten to fifteen percent of all cancers occur in the mouth.
Considering the small size of the mouth this is relatively high
compared to the other areas of the body.

What substance in tobacco causes cancer?

Out of the more than four thousand alkaloids identified in
tobacco, more than forty are proven carcinogens (chemicals which cause
cancer)
Benzo pyrene and nitrosamines are a few of these. Some of these carcinogens
interfere with the genes that control cell division causing uncontrolled
multiplication of cells, or cancer.

of ten individuals who get cancer in the mouth use tobacco in one form

Since most of the cases are diagnosed at a later stage, oral cancer carries
a high mortality rate in India. Five years after diagnoses, only fifty
percent of the oral cancer patients are alive.

10 to 20 beats per minute, and it increases the blood pressure reading

disturbances, oesophageal reflex, hypertension, foetal
